Perhaps the most striking of meadow rues, this delicate beauty has lavender purple flowers on purple stems with pale yellow stamens for contrast. This beauty can grow to a height of 8’. Blooms appear in mid to late summer and bloom into fall. Prefers partial shade and deep, moisture-retentive soil. Tolerates full sun in wet soil. Plant may need staking when they reach their full height. Perennial in USDA Hardiness Zones 4-7. (Thalictrum rochebruneanum)

Seed sowing instructions: Seeds can be sown at any time but are best sown in winter or early spring to benefit from a cold spell in the wet compost to break their dormancy. Sow seed in pots or flats of moistened seed starting mix and cover seed thinly with fine grit or a little dry seed-starting mix and spritz with water to moisten. Place the covered pot or tray into a cold area such as a refrigerator or cold garage for 4-8 weeks. Bring back into warm temperatures, provide light and keep moist to germinate.
