HOW TO GROW BERRIES FROM SEEDS
""""(Cold stratification is a process of treating seeds to simulate natural conditions that
the seeds must experience before germination can occur. Many seed species have an
embryonic dormancy phase, and generally will not sprout until this dormancy is
broken.)""" Cold Stratification needs to be performed right before planting the seeds.
Place berry seeds in a shallow tray and cover them with room temperature
water. Let them soak for 24 hours to hydrate and plump the seed. Drain the
water by pouring the berry seeds into a colander lined with a coffee filter to
prevent the small berry seeds from spilling out.
Spread seeds out in a single layer on the paper towel.
Wrap a dry paper towel around the damp paper towel to help keep things moist but not
too wet (which could become moldy).
Place in a ziploc bag and seal.
Place in the refrigerator fo about 6 -8 weeks before planting.
Set a thermometer inside the refrigerator to make sure the temperature is
34 to 41 degrees F. Adjust the thermostat if needed to reach this
temperature. Set the bags in an area of a refrigerator where they will not
be disturbed or moved during the stratification process.
Monitor the sprouts to appear , which takes one to two months.
Remove seeds as sprouts appear and plant it in a sunny area. Monitor the
soil moisture and water as needed to keep it moist, but not wet.
Hope that you enjoy your planting experience!
